The war on drugs has been a highly contentious issue, with advocates on both sides fiercely debating the effectiveness of current drug policies. To raise awareness about the failures of the war on drugs and more specifically the unjust driving legislation medicinal cannabis patients are victim to, the ‘Who Are We Hurting?’ army has commandeered a fleet of military vehicles to deliver the facts directly to news outlets while returning to the scene of the “crime” of their prior 420 protests, which left activists Alec ‘Craze’ Zammitt & Will Stolk currently on bail.
The pair were joined by other activists, as they drove a military-style motorcade of armoured military vehicles, including a tank over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and past the Sydney Opera House, the scene of the “crime” they committed last year and have pending charges for.
Jeremy Buckingham rode along as his first day in office as elected Member of Parliament for the Legalise Cannabis NSW party.
Alec Zammitt gave a comment on this year’s Who Are We Hurting? 420 protest saying, “This visual statement aims to highlight the need for a new approach to drug-driving policy, one that prioritises harm reduction and treatment over punishment and incarceration.
“Driving with THC, shouldn’t make you an enemy”
“Driving laws need change, Cannabis patients deserve equal range”
Said Alec Zammitt
Will Stolk added, “We want to publicise the discussion around cannabis in Australia and ask the government, who would be hurt by an amnesty?”
“We also want to educate the Australian taxpayer on the benefits of fully legalizing cannabis in Australia. There is a huge amount of money that will flow into the coffers of the Australian government, for use in healthcare, schools, and roads, from the tax excise that will be taken from legalized cannabis.
“We also want to highlight the fact that the 75-plus year war on drugs hasn’t worked and has cost the taxpayer billions of dollars fighting a war that cannot and will not ever be won.”
